All My Socks Have Holes (2010)

It is a short disjointed narrative dance that offers a glimpse into the lives and the memories of two people who have spent their formative and majority of years in their different homelands.  The parts of the story get fragmented and deformed through revealing “memory collapse”, holes in remembering past events. Their fragmented stories unravel, starting with holes found on the woman's socks and her homeland's myth that a long second toe means your mother will outlive your father. Through the journey of these two characters, the work discovers our memories and thoughts that are severely punctuated, replaced, deformed and altered. The characters are humorous, nevertheless underprivileged, deliberately primitive, original, and often grotesque. The sensibility rests upon psycho-dramatic landscapes and irony. Its incoherent ill-consciousness narrative of video and movement serves to illustrate the depths of a psyche becoming deranged, earning ironic desperation at the end. The work will be accompanied by acoustic and electronic music of Alban Bailly and video projection.

Tras Lados is an evening-length collaborative work with Pulso Cía. de Danza (under the direction of Mijail Rojas and Diana Rayón), commissioned by Danspace Project, New York. The visually surrealistic evening-length quartet functions within a labyrinth of unlimited possibilities. A simple change to a single element causes a multitude of different scenarios to play out, subsequent variations spiral outward, and themes of constant creation, destruction, and reconstruction emerge all within this illusory matrix of time and space.

*Tras Lados is made possible with support from Korean Cultural Service NY. The creation of Tras Lados was made possible in part by funds from The Danspace Project Commissioning Initiative with support from The Jerome Foundation.
